Career Fairs

OIC-SFL stages and collaborates with employers, school and other stakeholders to conduct career fairs.  OIC-SFL career fairs are designed to provide job seekers a way to explore career opportunities within a variety of companies at one location. Job seekers  are urged to take advantage of these fairs to be better informed about the South Florida job market. Career fairs must be a part of one’s overall job search process and this is a great way to learn about job openings, research companies, practice and hone interviewing and networking skills.
Four Ways to Maximize A Career Fair
Dress to Impress.
  • First, remember that you are presenting yourself and your skills on the day of the job fair, so you should attend the event with the same professionalism as if you were heading to a job interview. Dress professionally, have resumes ready to hand out, and be prepared to stop and chat with the companies that interest you the most.
Do your research.
  • Remember the importance of doing some research before you attend the event. Know who will be there, decide which companies you want to speak with most, and do a little research on the company (and any potential openings it may have) so you are ready and able to talk about the opportunities and the value you offer to the company.
Expand your options.
  • While you may have significant experience in one industry, understand your transferable skills and be able to share how you can use those skills in a variety of sectors.
Follow up.
  • Remember how important the follow-up can be.  Always send an email thanking the employer for the opportunity to speak with them about opportunities at the company and reiterate what value and skills you can provide to the organization.. At the very least, it may make them give you a second look – and at best, it may be the push they need to offer you an interview for the job you want
